Here is the place of the Counter-Culture where we check out Independent Artistes and Films.

A Princess by the name PENELOPE has arisen in the kingdom of music, and is attracting attention as is due. She expresses issues of her life both the negatives and positives in an upbeat fun way that would get you moving on the glamorous dance floor of the club or of your living room. "Just pump the music, the kids next door are dancing to it" (from song Famous) BOSS is a word that signifies independence and Penelope is indeed this and her song called The Boss produced by Grande is her first single that was released in February of 2008. The album The Boss can be described as being within the genre of Glam-Electro-Hip Hop and is a mixture of fresh compositions, chill vocals and honest even provocative lyrics. It's her joy to make music and is quite excited to perform and connect with her fans, of which one of her greatest is Arthur her dog. Watch out for the the release of her music video!

Fans can contact her at myspace (see LINK) and will soon be able to at glamrocksocialscene.com as it is still under construction.

They are uniformed and thus ought to behave accordingly, but yet something clicked in them to do otherwise. Maybe it was the slightly boring food? It started out with one throw, then another and soon all these children were engaged in a full scaled food war. The Foodfighters indeed! It's a delightfully messy video that complemented the relaxing music with thought provoking paradoxial lyrics. One thing that pops out is the slow motion of the entire video. You will be sure to see all the expressions, the gladiator throws and the final showdown in all its glory.

Music Video: Maximo Park - Our Velocity (LINK)

February 22nd 2008 00:13

Indeed Maximo Park's music video for their highly recognised song "Our Velocity" was a mixture of interesting camera work; mulitplicity and high energy especially from the frontman and the keyboardist who was quite animated to say in the least. The opening sequence of the video really catches attention with an inverted view of band members walking into a room with a metallic blur giving a space-like feel. It's almost as if they are in a kind of 'nowhere' white room. Is this somewhat like that of the prototype of the Matrix? Whatever is happening, it is certainly linked to the lyrics about re-evaluating and finding out one's place after being swallowed in a system that one has been devoted to or simply born and cultured into

Give Me Music by Pierre Farel
Give Me Music by Pierre Farel

From the book Why Men Don't Listen and Women can't read Maps Allan Pease writes that "Jazz enthusiasts have sex 34% more than those who like pop, and classical enthusiasts have the least sex." This was based on a research carried out in 1997 of over 10,000 adults reported by American Demographics magazine

The Manhog appears to be the incarnation of the cartoon character Frank created by Jim Woodring. He probably represents slothfulness - one of the human issues that Jose explores in his album "In Our Nature". This thought provoking song video will have most people rewatching to get the deep message from it, but it is no way boring. It's interesting that the director Andreas Nilsson composed the entire video with only one character along with flashes of Jose strumming and singing and nonetheless make a substantial production. As we see, this Manhog is quite lonely and depressed even though having some level of financial substance. He writes with his finger "Ella" on the fogged glass of the car window, which in Spanish means "Her". The video has a number of clues, and you may even realise that Manhog repeats actions. Does this have to do with "doing the same mistake twice"?

Liars! - Plaster Casts of Everything (LINK)

February 8th 2008 01:58

What is he trying to escape? Obviously disturbed in the video with orange-like prison clothes, our main character is furiously driving at maddening speeds on a lonely highway at midnight at what looks like a twighlight zone. We see his face and body shapeshifting with that of a woman. Her hanging breasts and distorted face scream at our minds telling us that something went wrong. The storyline is likened to that of David Lynch's Lost Highway. Director Patrick Daughters indeed makes this nightmarish concept to blend in with the song from Liars' 4th album. This is yet another video up for Music Video of the Year at the 2008 PLUG Independent Awards

D.A.N.C.E. with those Funky T-Shirts (LINK)

February 6th 2008 01:33

Bring on the T-shirt designs from the French duo called Justice. From the digestive tract to censored shirts exclaiming "Gosh!Damn!"- these images are constantly morphing to the delight of the viewers. Is this a marketing strategy for a line of indie hipster T-shirts as well? If it is, then mos def it will work. As huge Michael Jackson fans that they are, they dedicated this as a tribute song to him, with elements of several songs within the lyrics and melody as well as an image of him on a T-shirt. Jonas&François the directors have taken the mode of a simple video with vivid animations, and it has worked hence it's been nominated for 2008 PLUG's Indie Awards and was awarded the "Video Star" Award in November 2007 at the MTV European Music Awards
